Food safety bill gets approval from House committee

A bill that would give the FDA more money and power to protect the food supply has won approval from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The bill calls for food-making facilities to pay a $500 annual inspection fee and gives the FDA more power to order food recalls and impose penalties.
