Providing a jolt for the Chevy Volt

Even though Chevrolet won't introduce its electric car, the Volt, until 2010, a Silicon Valley startup called Coulomb Technologies is well on its way to establishing as many as 2,000 "filling stations" for battery-powered vehicles. Cities, parking operators and condo developers are among the early buyers for the stations, which start at $2,500 and charge a battery in four to 10 hours. And if drivers can't wait that long? Competing firm Better Place is planning a network of stations where spent batteries can be swapped for new ones in minutes.
