Duncan: States can seek flexibility with new evaluation systems

The U.S. Department of Education will consider requests to delay personnel consequences for teachers and administrators tied to new assessments under the Common Core State Standards, Education Secretary Arne Duncan wrote Tuesday in a letter to state school chiefs. Duncan said requests for waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis and, if approved, states could delay for one year the consequences tied to performance under the common core to the 2016-17 academic year.
