Shell oil sands project reaches 10th year of production

The Athabasca oil sands project in Canada has reached its 10th year of production, according to Royal Dutch Shell, the project's operator. Output has totaled more than 500 million barrels of oil since operations began in 2003, Shell said. "The oil sands are an important long-term business opportunity for Shell and an economic engine for Canada and beyond," said Lorraine Mitchelmore, president of Shell Canada.
