Smiles are worth their weight in customer-loyalty gold

Receiving a smile and a greeting at an independent business was the most oft-cited reason consumers felt loyalty to that business, according to a survey of 2,000 consumers. One-third of respondents cited excellent customer service as the reason they returned to the shop. The study also found that 3 out of 5 consumers are willing to shell out more to buy from an independent store rather than a large retailer.
