Study finds Fibonacci numbers in plant spiral formations

Researchers reported this month the discovery of Fibonacci numbers in the clockwise and counterclockwise spirals in cauliflower, artichoke and sunflower florets. The spirals, which maximize the plants' ability to gather sunlight, are formed by a hormone called auxin.
