Study: Hybrid cars excel in heavy traffic

Hybrid cars make environmental and economic sense if drivers spend a lot of time in annoyingly heavy traffic, according to a Carnegie Mellon University study. "For drivers who experience a lot of idling and stop-and-go traffic, a hybrid could lower lifetime costs by 20% and cut greenhouse gas emissions in half," said Jeremy Michalek, Carnegie Mellon professor of mechanical engineering and engineering.
