Companies prefer mutual funds when switching 401(k)s

As companies change 401(k) providers, they are increasingly turning to mutual fund companies rather than financial-planning firms and banks, according to a new study. Mutual-fund firms' market share among this group increased to 26% from 23%, while financial-planning firms' market share fell to 4% from 6%, and banks' market share fell to 14% from 19%.
