Illegal hiring enforcement could get revamp

With the Immigration and Naturalization Service scaling back work-site enforcement operations by 95% between 1999 and 2003, and the subsequent merge into the Homeland Security Department, funds for crackdowns on employing illegal workers were slashed. The Bush administration is seeking more resources to sanction employers, toughen penalties and introduce a more reliable system.
