FDA official: Origin of tainted tomatoes may remain unknown

The FDA may never be able to identify the origin of salmonella-tainted tomatoes because some of the trace-backs in the cases "have been falling apart," said Dr. David Acheson, the FDA's associate commissioner for foods. A CDC official said that pinpointing the source of the contamination would require "finding someone who not only remembers what they had to eat and where they ate it, but someone who doesn't have tomatoes more than once a day."
