Iowa looks to federal aid to rebuild roads, bridges

Citing "phenomenal" damage from recent flooding, the head of Iowa's Transportation Department said road and bridge repairs will run in the hundreds of millions of dollars, though much of that is expected to come from federal disaster aid. Nancy Richardson said she doesn't expect a major rewriting of the state's $2 billion, five-year transportation plan, which was approved just last week. Some emergency repair work has already begun, as construction crews are pulled from scheduled projects to help reopen vital roadways.
