House bill would provide $500B in transportation funding

Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., and leaders of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hope to pass a bill that will provide $500 billion in funding over the next six years for roads, transit and high-speed rail projects. Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood asked the committee to delay for 18 months a plan to overhaul the U.S. transportation system. He has requested instead that the committee extend the current authorization to support the Highway Trust Fund.
