Lawmakers express privacy concerns at hearing

Remarks from key lawmakers on both sides of the aisle at a congressional hearing on Internet privacy suggest some regulatory push might be in the offing. Some in the industry are backing a basic regulatory framework but caution the speed of the Web makes it difficult to establish fixed regulations. "Self-regulation is ideal for our industry because technology moves very rapidly, and by using self-regulation we can respond in kind," said Yahoo!'s head of privacy Anne Toth.
