Graduate students seeking associate professor positions should dress well and check their appearance just before the interview, William Helmreich, a professor at the City College of the City University of New York, advises in this commentary. Candidates should concisely discuss their research and engage other faculty members about their research during lunch or other breaks. "A sense of humor is always helpful. If you don't have one, develop one. You want them to say later that they really enjoyed meeting you," Helmreich writes.
