Small business owners John Pelzer of Busch's Florist in Jefferson City, Mo., and Beth Aberg, of Washington, D.C.'s Random Harvest, both said there are lessons they wish they had learned before jumping into their own retail ventures. They also said it's the challenges and unlimited possibilities that come with running a retail business that gets them excited to go to work every day. "Being small means we can be reasonably nimble in experimenting with new ideas and products without enormous risk," Aberg said.
