Tunnel-boring machines can now be followed on Twitter

Tunnel-boring machines deployed across the U.S. are now on Twitter and will share "observations about their work in real time." Bertha, the borer that will be used to dig the tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle; twin TBMs Mom Chung and Big Alma, which will work on the Central Subway Rail Project in San Francisco; and Mackenzie, which is excavating the three-mile Euclid Tunnel in Cleveland, will all be online. "With Twitter, the complex, technical tunneling process becomes much more approachable for our community," said Erin Halasz of the San Francisco MTA Central Subways outreach team.
