WOMM is more important to small businesses than 5 years ago, survey says

The number of small businesses that say word-of-mouth marketing is their most important venue for acquiring new customers increased from 32% to 40% in the past five years, according to survey data from Constant Contact. The survey also found the number of small businesses that use social media marketing has risen dramatically from from 10% five years ago to 87% today. "The countless word-of-mouth moments that once happened at industry conferences or backyard barbecues are now happening in front of the eyes of business owners and customers alike, right on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn," said Gail Goodman, CEO of Constant Contact.
