Parasite egg is found in ancient burial site in Syria

The egg of a parasite that continues to infect people today has been found in an ancient Syrian burial site. The 6,200-year-old egg was found in the burial plot of a child who lived in a farming community. "We found the earliest evidence for a parasite [that causes] Schistosomiasis in humans," said University of Cambridge biological anthropologist Piers Mitchell, who co-authored the study in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases.
