L.A. Mayor-elect pushes for mayor-appointed school board

Los Angeles Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa said Friday the mayor should appoint all seven members of the school board, which currently is elected. Supporters say the proposal reflects his campaign pledge to make education a top priority, while others warn the switch would be fraught with legal and political difficulties and would face an uphill battle.
