Economist Bean to become Bank of England deputy governor:

The UK government has announced the appointment of Charles Bean, a chief economist at the Bank of England, to the position of deputy governor for monetary policy. Viewed as Governor Mervyn King's protégé, Bean will replace Rachel Lomax. The central bank's other deputy governor, Sir John Gieve, resigned earlier this week. Bank economist Spencer Dale has been promoted to replace Bean.
