10 risk factors are linked to 90% of all stroke risk

Researchers conducted a large, case-control study and found a total of 10 risk factors that are responsible for 90% of all stroke risk, with high blood pressure accounting for one-third of the risk. The INTERSTROKE study also showed that five lifestyle factors -- high blood pressure, smoking, abdominal obesity, diet and exercise -- are associated with 80% of all stroke risk.
