Education Department begins annual review of states' special education

The Education Department is conducting its annual assessment of how each state is spending its funding for special education. Individuals with Disabilities Act determination letters ask all districts to answer 20 questions about their K-12 students in special education, including how many are educated in mainstream classrooms, how many earn standard diplomas and how they fare after high school. Each state is required to develop and make public their goals for students with special needs, with states given a rating by the federal government.
