ACC's Swift: Shale fields support advantages for U.S. chemical production

Shale natural gas resources in Ohio and other states with shale fields are providing a platform for the resurgence of plastics and chemical manufacturers, said Kevin Swift, the American Chemistry Council's chief economist. "It's been a game changer," Swift said, adding that hydraulic fracturing operations are enabling the production of cheap and widely available natural gas for the petrochemical sector. This trend should allow the U.S. to achieve a plastics resin trade surplus by the decade's end, Swift added.
