Australian algae-oil developer plans to scale up

A $10.7 million pilot-scale algae-to-fuel project backed by the Australian government has produced its first batch of algae-based crude oil, said Gary Gray, the country's resources and energy minister. The company, Muradel, is planning to scale up its technology at a proposed demonstration-scale plant, which is due for completion by early 2014.
