Report: Retirement savings gap may be as high as $14 trillion

Account balances show that the U.S. could be facing a $14 trillion retirement shortfall, according to a report from the National Institute on Retirement Security. "The average working household has virtually no retirement savings," the report said. Working-age households have a median account balance of $3,000, while the figure is $12,000 for those closer to retirement, according to the report.
