Thirty-five counties in Minneapolis have been declared disaster areas after receiving between three and six inches of rain on Thursday. The Minneapolis/St. Paul area had already seen 20.2 inches of precipitation since the beginning of the year before the latest rainfall. That's almost twice the 11.77 inches it usually gets by this point in June. There have been four 1-in-1,000 year floods since 2004, according to the Minnesota Climate Office. The Midwest in general has been hard hit, with more than 1,000 homes damaged by flooding.
