Study: GERD may cause both types of cancer found in esophagus

Researchers say gastroesophageal reflux disease may be associated with more types of cancer than previously thought. While two distinct types of cancer are found in tumors at the end of the esophagus, only one has been linked to GERD, but researchers theorize the other type may in fact be just a more advanced state of the same disease, which would double the number of deaths caused by GERD.
