WTC memorial's redesign cuts cost in half

As part of a redesign plan to cut costs from $1 billion to $500 million, a new design has been created for the commemorative memorial for those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. A committee created by New York Gov. George Pataki and Mayor Michael Bloomberg decided that the memorial will have the names of the 2,749 victims inscribed above ground on walls surrounding square sunken pools instead of below ground, making the names visible at all times.
