Editorial: Bloomberg needs more substance for presidential bid

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's departure from the Republican Party is a political stand mired in personal contradictions, but it may gain populist support as moderates continue to feel disenchanted with the two-party system, The Wall Street Journal editorializes. Still, Bloomberg will need to come up with an adequate replacement for the system if he makes an independent presidential run. "Democrats and Republicans each reflect fairly stable coalitions of interests, which is why those two parties are settled so comfortably in our political mainstream," the newspaper says.
