Experts fear replacement diseases follow vaccine success

Vaccine experts say the success of some vaccines in eliminating diseases may just be clearing the way for replacement illnesses, signaling a limit to the usefulness of current vaccines. The concern increased with a recent study showing pneumococcal infections on the rise among Native Alaskans after a dramatic decline following introduction of the vaccine Prevnar.
