Senate Appropriations votes to reopen stem cell funding

The day after the veto of a bill to ease restrictions on funding embryonic stem cell research, a Senate panel included expanded stem cell funding opportunities in an appropriations measure. The committee voted 26-3 to include in the $152 billion legislation funding several federal departments a provision that moves the date of eligible stem cell lines from August 2001 to June 15, sweeping in as many as 400 new lines.
