Canada eyes tougher standards for runway excursions

Canadian regulators may require "runway excursion safety areas" at least 270 feet long at airports around the country in an effort to enhance safety when aircraft fail to stop before reaching the end of the runway. The Transport Safety Board reported last week that runway excursions require urgent attention as one of Canada's greatest transportation safety issues.
