Dow JV begins work on lithium-ion battery plant in Michigan

Dow Kokam has broken ground on its lithium-ion battery plant in Midland, Mich., as the Dow Chemical joint venture turns its attention to producing highly efficient power sources for electric vehicles. The move is in line with the Obama administration's goal of reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil, Vice President Joe Biden said during the event. "We're helping our state and our company achieve vitally important clean-energy and employment goals," said Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris.
