Expert tackles animal-welfare and animal-rights issues

The beef-cattle industry should step in to develop its own animal-welfare evaluations and production measures, and not allow advocacy groups to dictate such standards, said Dr. Dan Thomson, the Beef Cattle Institute's director. Thomson said that joining organized producer and veterinary groups, including AVMA, is one way to help spur progress in the cattle industry.
