Rising railroad employment has yet to reach 2008 levels

The nation's railroad workforce continues to grow, but employment is still below where it was in 2008. May employment among Class I railroads totaled 149,067 workers, according to the Surface Transportation Board, down by a bit more than 1% from May 2009, but still more than 10% below May 2008 levels.
