FDA issues draft guidance on artificial pancreas

The FDA on Monday released a draft guidance with recommendations for the development and testing of a closed-loop artificial pancreas system for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. The agency aims "to provide a clear pathway for artificial pancreas development so that people with diabetes can benefit from innovative medical devices," said Dr. Jeffrey Shuren of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
