API: U.S. needs stronger program for offshore energy development

The American Petroleum Institute is urging the U.S. government to improve its development program for offshore oil and natural gas resources. The existing federal plan "would limit offshore development to where it historically has always been: parts of the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Alaska. It would restrict opportunities when it should be expanding them," said Erik Milito, API's upstream director. "It would not help prepare us well for our energy future."
