Carbon taxes beat clean-energy subsidies, report says

The federal government should pull the plug on its energy subsidies and start taxing carbon, according to a National Research Council report. Current approaches aren't likely to do enough to avert climate change, the report argues. "A different approach that targets GHG emissions directly through taxes or tradable allowances will be both necessary and more efficient," it says.
