Simple solutions go a long way toward battling worker complacency

The key to keeping knowledge workers from falling into a state of complacency lies not in programs designed to increase engagement but in rediscovering the fundamentals of good management, writes Jonathan Feldman. The issue is especially pressing since a Manpower study finds less than one-fifth of workers are satisfied with their jobs. It's tempting to think that simple technological fixes or higher pay packages can re-energize workers, but the most important thing management can do is convince employees they have a stake in the company while making sure they are challenged and valued, he writes.
