Oregon offers students graduation options

Having seen California's dropout rates rise, neighboring Oregon officials have approved an exit exam for high-schoolers but will allow students to chose whether to take national or state exams or complete a local alternative, such as a student portfolio. "We didn't think any one test should determine whether someone gets a diploma," said Duncan Wyse, vice chairman of the Oregon Board of Education.
