Arizona aims for stricter immigration enforcement laws

Legislation proposed in Arizona would strengthen the role of local authorities in immigration enforcement. If the bill is passed, Arizona would become the first state to criminalize the presence of illegal immigrants by expanding its law against trespassing. Under the proposal, law enforcement authorities must determine an individual's immigration status if they have reasonable suspicion that a person is in the U.S. illegally.
