2 Florida chickens test positive for equine encephalitis

Two sentinel chickens in Martin County, Fla., have tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis, a viral illness that can prove lethal to horses and on rare occasions might also sicken humans. County health officials warned residents to be on alert for the disease. The two chickens were the first reported cases in the area in three decades.
