Clean-water demand boosts water-treatment additives

The growing need for clean and potable water is lifting global need for water-treatment chemicals, said Paul Turgeon, president of BWA Water Additives. "We expect the continuing construction of water-desalination plants to re-establish the pre-recession 15% growth rates to this market segment," Turgeon said. The wave of demand is also straining the supply of acrylic acid, a key feedstock in membrane desalination, an element of the water-treatment process, Turgeon added.
