Deliver bad news without being the bad guy

Even bad news can be framed as positive if it's handled correctly, Mark Jaffe writes. Be cognizant of your feelings, know when to suppress them and be careful to notice and allay the recipient's concerns. When terminating an employee, Jaffe suggests that you give them the news straight -- and then seek feedback by asking them whether you did a good job during the firing process.
