EU fast-tracks plan to unify air-traffic systems

The volcanic ash cloud that caused flight disruptions earlier this year and Europe's chaotic response have prompted European Union officials to accelerate their plans to unify the bloc's national air-traffic systems. The Single European Sky, as the project has been dubbed, is expected to reduce delays, trim fuel consumption, lower carbon emissions and cut flight times.
