Philadelphia solves traffic-light problems with GIS

Philadelphia is using GIS mapping for a new purpose: changing light bulbs. Lancaster, Pa.-based geographIT produced a map of the city's thousands of traffic lights to streamline replacing the bulbs as they burned out. "They were spending a tremendous amount of money doing manual work, with a six- or seven-month backlog," said geographIT partner Ashis Pal. "With this, they're going to catch up on the backlog."
