Fire forces evacuation of East Penn battery plant

About 50 firefighters battled a Saturday afternoon blaze at a manufacturing plant owned by East Penn Industries, maker of Deka batteries. About 15 workers were evacuated from a section of the Pennsylvania plant where used batteries are recycled. The company said the fire's impact would be minimal because the facility was already scheduled to be closed for its yearly maintenance.
