College friends compete in Air Race Classic

Two college flight students at Kansas State University are among the 34 teams competing in the four-day, 2,714-mile Air Race Classic. Twenty-year-old Kali Hague and her 21-year-old friend, Merritt Hitchcock, both caught the aviation bug while watching air shows at Kansas City's Wheeler Downtown Airport. Both soloed years ago and have racked up more than 200 hours of flight time. But despite all their hours in the cockpit, flying in the 80th anniversary edition of the all-female air race will be anything but routine. "What a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" says Hitchcock. "How many girls can say they competed in an air race?"
