SEC, CFTC agree to divvy up derivatives oversight

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary Schapiro and Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler agreed to divide oversight of the derivatives market. Schapiro and Gensler told the Senate Banking Committee that the CFTC should oversee derivatives linked to commodities, while the SEC should regulate derivatives linked to equities and debt. Still, questions about derivatives oversight remain.
