TerreStar bird will expand AT&T hybrid coverage

AT&T Mobility's hybrid cellular/satellite network should reach coast-to-coast by year-end, according to industry analysts who say the telecom's resale of startup TerreStar Networks' satellite service and equipment could find a solid market in machine-to-machine communications. TerreStar is producing smartphone-size hybrid handsets for the service, which a Yankee Group analyst said would find its most productive use on such M2M services as monitoring of pipeline and electrical grids.
